| JUST A CUP OF COLD WATER! by Carol Morris
I sat there watching life drift from his body. It had been a long fifteen months, but I fought for his life. The doctors said he only had a few hours left. I sat there and dipped the sponge in water and kept his lips moist and he would suck the moisture into his throat. Just a sip of cold water to quench the dryness. Then my husband passed away.
I sat there watching life drift from her body. The constant care for months and the slow diminishing of her thinking processes were hard to watch but we cared for her. I sat there and dipped the sponge in water and kept her lips moist and she would suck the moisture into her throat. Just a sip of cold water to quench the dryness. Then my sister-in-law passed away.
I write about these two personal accounts because I want to speak out about the refusal to let Terri Shiavo's father give his daughter just a sip of cold water. This is a shame and disgrace on our society that I never thought I would live to witness.
As I sat by the bedsides of my husband and sister-in-law, I was encouraged by the nurses to keep the lips, mouth and throat moist as long as I could. I am outraged at what our nation is witnessing. Not even water to moisten the dry lips. This is barbaric
No parent should be refused to care for their child for as long as they are able. Michael Shiavo will have much to answer for someday. The humane thing for him to do was to turn her over to her parents. He would be free of the "privilege" to care for his wife. Remember the wedding vows, "For better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, so long as we both shall live." Well, I guess we know the measure of "better or worse, in sickness and in health…." for Michael Shiavo.
The liberals are screaming about the abuse of terrorists, murderers, and rapists is our prisoner of war camps because of sleep deprivation, water boarding, and other so-called abuses. Hog wash!!! Where are their voices now?
Terri Shiavo didn't do anything, yet she is being denied the mercy and the human right to live that the liberals are fighting to give our enemies who have murdered and raped. Woe, woe, woe, to you. Beware!! What goes around comes around.
I ask you, why was I instructed to keep my husband's and sister-in-law's lips and mouth moist in order to make them as comfortable as possible? Why was it so important to the nurses and doctors that I do this, just a sip of cold water to comfort them?
